Frequently Asked Questions:
- Does it hurt? The true answer to this question is that it depends on the individual. Everyone responds differently to stimuli and has different pain threshold. The acupuncture needles are extremely fine. Some points are more sensitive than others however most points are tolerable. Our acupuncturist is ready to coach and assist patient should any discomfort arise. Rest assured that you are not alone in this process. We care about our patients and we do our best to ensure a comfortable and healing experience for all patients at our clinic.
- How many sessions are required? This depends on the condition. The standard treatment protocol at our clinic is 6 sessions, followed by an evaluation and recommendation for maintenance.
- When can patient expect to feel an improvement? Everyone responds differently to a treatment depending on the nature and severity of the condition being treated, other pre-existing conditions that can have bearing on the recuperative power of the individual, and patient's compliance to the treatment regimen. There is not one standard gauge that measures all people equally. Based on the experiences at our clinic, the majority of patients feel improvement within the week of the first treatment. The acupuncture effects are cumulative, therefore the likelihood of increasing improvement is expected as patient goes through the course of treatment and stays firmly with the treatment plan.
- What about herbs? Most treatment protocol at our clinic include herbal prescriptions. For many millennia, herbs have been an important and indispensable component of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Some patients have concerns about taking herbs concurrently with their prescription medications. Our patients' experiences have shown that so far our herbs are not interfering with patients' medications and we did not receive any reports of adverse drug interactions. In prescribing herbs we take care, in the best of our ability, to consider patients' conditions and the current medications that they are taking to prevent any potential drug interaction. If any concerns arise, we can adjust the dosage or formula to suit patient's needs.
- Must patient have faith for it to work? Chinese medicine is a tried and true science that has been in use for over 3,000 years. Even without faith the needles and herbs still perform their functions. However, our clinical experience has shown that patients who keep an open and receptive mind heal faster and more effectively than the doubtful or skeptical patients.
